This is a major independent music festival. Artists appearing include major international and national folk, trad and roots music performers. The festival, held over four days, presents folk, country, celtic, blues, jazz, bluegrass, traditions, contemporary, singers, songwriters, acoustic rock and world roots music.
There are also sessions, choirs, theme concerts, workshops, classes and theatre. The festival transforms the village of Port Fairy into a hive of cultural celebration. The Festival is not just about music it also has parades, fairs, markets, busking, children's events and street theatre.
For most of the year Port Fairy is a quiet coastal town situated in south-western Victoria. It is located 17km west of Warrnambool and 290km west of Melbourne. It is a popular holiday resort area during the summer months.
