Midsumma Festival

Midsumma Festival has been held annually for over 20 years. It is a gay and lesbian festival which focuses on arts and cultural events. Midsumma is presented over three weeks and four weekends usually from mid January to February with many Melbourne municipalities participating. This is a major attraction on the Melbourne festival calendar.

Midsumma Festival brings together a eclectic mix of artists and performers to celebrate and present queer art and culture. The Midsumma Festival program is made up of visual art, theatre, spoken word, cabaret, film, live music, sport and social and political forums and debates. Historically the opening and closing events of the Festival are both innovative and creative.

Midsumma is growing in popularity and it is claimed to rank globally as one of the top five gay and lesbian arts and cultural festivals. It shares this with similar events held in New York, San Francisco, Vancouver and Singapore.
