The Melbourne Cup Carnival is the highlight of horse racing in Melbourne. Held in Spring, when the roses are in full bloom in all their colourful glory and draped along the final straight to the finish line.
An average of around 350,000 people have attended the four races of the Carnival held at the Flemington Racecourse over the previous 10 year. And it's not just the races, it's the fashions, the parades, the glamour and the parties that make this horse racing carnival one of the best and most colourful in the world.
The highlight of the week is the Melbourne Cup which is held traditionally on the first Tuesday in November each year. It is truly a horse race that stops the nation. For those who aren't able to get there, TVs and radios are tuned into the 4 minutes broadcast to listen to their pick either flash past the winning post and take the accolades or meander in sometime later.
